Walking on Water - Bible Study

A reflection on faith, fear, and trusting Christ in the storms of life.

A reflection on faith, fear, and trusting Christ in the storms of life.

Content

This week our group reflected on Jesus walking on the water and how this moment reveals the tension between faith and fear in the Christian life.

Christ in the Chaos

Jesus allows the disciples to face the storm while holding complete authority over it. We discussed how trusting Christ in chaotic moments often means choosing prayer, staying grounded in His Word, and remembering that His presence is steady even when our circumstances are not.

Drawn and Afraid

Like the apostles, we can feel both drawn to Christ and afraid to approach Him. Many men shared desires for deeper prayer, stronger leadership at home, and more consistent spiritual habits. We also acknowledged common fears such as falling short or resisting the change that real discipleship demands.

Stepping Out of the Boat

Peter steps onto the water only because Jesus calls him. We asked what actions Christ is calling each of us to take. This included seeking reconciliation, taking responsibility for our families’ spiritual lives, committing to ministry, or acting on something we have delayed.

When We Sink

Peter begins to sink when he doubts. We recognized familiar moments when distraction, discouragement, or worry weaken our trust. Growth in faith comes through daily Scripture, the sacramental life, steady prayer, and the support of brothers who keep us focused on Christ.

Family Leadership Challenge

Tech Sabbath Sunday. Dads lock their phones in a box from 9AM-1PM after mass and the whole family goes outside and plays together.
